Roulette Variations
2 Mar 2006

The game of roulette has not seen too many changes since it was first developed. There are two versions of the game, European Roulette and American Roulette; however, the only differences between the two lie in the fact that American Roulette has the double zero while European does not. The double zero does one thing for you in American Roulette in that it lowers your chances of winning by 2.5%. The double zero in roulette raises the house edge to 5.26% while in European Roulette it is a mere 2.7%.

Other than the differences between payout percentages, there is little variations in the game of roulette, which may be the reason that it is not as appealing to online casino players as poker or blackjack. Roulette does not require the player to participate past placing bets. And there are many players who prefer being involved in the game. For this reason many people have been trying to develop new variations to the game, in hopes of attracting more people the both online and land-based casinos.

Although currently no new game has been released there are a few patents in process for new roulette variations. For example, one patent has discussed developing a roulette wheel with two separate spinning circles, an inner and an outer one. These wheels will be spun together and players can gamble on either wheel or a combination of the two. This does increase the action of the game of roulette and is only one variation in the works. Be sure to keep an eye out for new roulette games at the online casino.
